WRITING FOR THE ORFF ECHO

GENERAL AND FEATURE ARTICLES

The Orff Echo publishes informative, lively articles covering all aspects of Orff Schulwerk. Each issue presents several 2,200- to 2,500-word articles around an editorial feature topic.

POTENTIAL SUBJECTS

Classroom Applications provide a glimpse of quality music making, movement, and creative learning in Orff Schulwerk-inspired classrooms. Although not a forum for sharing lesson plans and procedures, these articles can offer inspiration, encouragement, and solutions to many of the challenges experienced by educators in various settings.

Current Developments in Education address issues that affect the daily work of Orff educators, including education initiatives, trends in curriculum and instruction, arts integration, new technologies, extensions of elemental style and theory, and issues related to arts education advocacy. These articles can inspire “out of the box” thinking or connect arts educators with each other and the work of their colleagues in general education.

Diverse Perspectives support and elevate our membership and the students we teach. These articles promote an understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion and provide teaching and learning resources that respect, affirm, and protect the dignity and worth of all.

History articles comprise historically significant events and individuals that had an impact on the Orff Schulwerk approach in the United States and abroad. These articles feature stories of the visionaries who sought to educate themselves and others about this unique pedagogical approach, and may also chronicle the history of AOSA’s programs, services, roots, and influences.

Research articles expand and enhance our knowledge of music teaching and learning. Articles may report a single research study or a review of the research literature expedient to educators in the field. These studies may be quantitative or qualitative and should include implications for the classroom.  Research articles may be submitted for a blind peer review; contact the editor for more information.
